Payhip vs Stan Store: which should you use?

Nathan Field Nathan Field·Founder, Stakk · 18 October 2026 · 7 min read

Use Payhip if you are starting out or sell a little each month: its free plan costs nothing until you sell, then takes 5% of each sale, with every feature included. Use Stan Store if you sell steadily from a social profile: it takes 0% of each sale but costs $29 a month, or $99 for order bumps and upsells. Payhip's free plan and Stan's $29 plan cost the same at $580 of sales in a month, before Stan's payout fee. Checked 12 October 2026.

Card processing is the same on both, so the choice comes down to three things: how much you sell, which checkout tools you need, and who holds the money.

What is the difference between Payhip and Stan Store?

Payhip charges you per sale, and Stan Store charges you per month. Payhip's free plan costs nothing until you sell, then takes 5%. Stan has no free plan and takes nothing from each sale.

The second difference is the money. Payhip connects to a Stripe or PayPal account of your own, and the processor pays your bank. Stan has you open a Stripe account that Stan manages, and you cash out from inside Stan.

The third is tax. Payhip's help center says it is a marketplace facilitator in the US, which means it collects and pays US sales tax on your sales instead of you, at no charge. None of the Stan help articles I read say Stan does the same. That describes what each platform does, not what you owe, which is a question for an accountant where you live.

Both sell digital products, courses and memberships or subscriptions. Payhip keeps every feature on every plan. Stan keeps order bumps, funnels, email marketing and discount codes for its $99 Creator Pro plan.

How much do Payhip and Stan Store cost?

Payhip is $0, $29 or $99 a month, taking 5%, 2% or 0% of each sale. Stan is $29 or $99 a month and takes 0% on both. Card processing sits on top of every plan on both platforms.

Payhip's plans article says the free plan comes with all features, unlimited products and unlimited revenue, and that PayPal and Stripe still charge their own fees on every plan. Its Stripe help article gives the standard Stripe fee as 2.9% + $0.30. Stan's fees article lists the same US rate, 1.5% more for a buyer in another country, and a payout fee of 0.25% + $0.25 each time you cash out, with a $1 minimum. Stan has no free plan. The detail on each side is in Payhip's fees explained and what Stan Store costs.

At what point is Stan Store cheaper than Payhip?

At $580 of sales in a month, comparing Payhip's free plan with Stan's $29 plan. Below that Payhip costs less. Above it Stan does.

$580
Sales in one month at which Payhip's free plan and Stan Store's $29 Creator plan cost the same, before Stan's payout fee. Below it Payhip's 5% costs less, and above it Stan's flat fee does.

Our own arithmetic on both vendors' published rates. Five percent of $580 is $29. Card processing is the same on both, so it cancels out. Stan's payout fee nudges the line up: with one cash out that month, it lands at around $615.

Payhip's paid plans change the picture a little. Payhip Plus costs $29 a month like Stan's Creator plan but still takes 2% of each sale, so at the same monthly price Stan takes less in all but the smallest months. Payhip Pro and Stan's Creator Pro both cost $99 and take 0%, so on fees they match, apart from Stan's payout fee.

That leaves features as the real question at $99. On Payhip, $99 buys a lower fee and nothing else, because every plan already has every feature. On Stan, $99 is what adds the order bump, funnels and email marketing.

Which one has order bumps and upsells?

Both have an add-on before payment. Only Stan has an upsell after payment, and only on its $99 plan.

Payhip's cross-sell works on the free plan. When a buyer adds a product to the cart, Payhip prompts them to add a second one at a discount, before they pay. Its help article notes one gap: a buyer who taps Buy Now on a phone sees no cross-sell at all. After checkout, Payhip has an "upgrade discount", which asks the buyer to make another transaction, and the same offer goes out in their email receipt. That is a second checkout, not a one-click upsell. Whether Payhip has order bumps goes through both in detail.

Stan's order bump is one add-on per product on the checkout page, on Creator Pro only. Its funnels, also Creator Pro only, show an upsell after a purchase and a downsell if the buyer skips, up to five levels deep. Funnels take card payments only and cannot carry an order bump. Stan's articles do not say whether the buyer types their card again for the upsell.

Who holds your money on Payhip and Stan Store?

Payhip does not hold it. Stan does, until you cash out.

Payhip has you connect a payment account of your own. Its Stripe help article says you connect an existing Stripe account or sign up for one, and that Stripe sends payouts to your bank daily by default, or weekly, monthly or by hand if you change it. Payhip supports 13 payment processors, and in most cases you connect PayPal plus one other.

Stan works differently. Its Stripe setup article says you create a new Custom Stripe account managed by Stan, and that you cannot connect one you already have. Sales wait in Stan's Income tab while they settle, which Stan says takes 2 to 7 business days, usually around 2. Each cash out then carries the payout fee.

Stakk sits on Payhip's side of this one. The charge lands in your own Stripe account and we never hold it. Which platforms let you use your own Stripe account lists the others that work this way.

Should you pick Payhip or Stan Store?

Pick Payhip if you are starting out, have a handful of products, or want a month with no sales to cost nothing. The free plan has every feature, the money goes to your own Stripe or PayPal account, and Payhip takes care of US sales tax. It is the better pick below about $580 a month in sales, and for anyone who wants their own Stripe account.

Pick Stan Store if you sell steadily from a social profile and want courses, calendar booking, community features and AutoDM for Instagram in one $29 plan. Above that $580 line its flat fee costs less, and on the $99 plan you get an order bump plus funnels with upsells after payment, which Payhip does not offer in one click.

When is Stakk the wrong choice instead of either?

If you need courses, memberships, subscriptions, bookings, a community or email marketing, Stakk is the wrong choice, and Payhip or Stan will serve you better. Stakk has none of those, sells in US dollars only, caps prices at $999 and has no link-in-bio page builder. If cost per sale is the whole decision, use Systeme.io or Whop instead. Systeme.io charges no transaction fees on any plan, including a free one that never expires, and Whop charges 2.7% + $0.30 on a domestic card with no monthly cost. Both take less per sale than our 10% + $0.50, and so does Payhip's free plan.

What Stakk does differently is the checkout. Payhip's add-on is free but it has no one-click upsell after payment, and Stan has both only at $99 a month. On Stakk both are on every account with nothing behind a tier, which fewer platforms do than you would expect. The bump rides the same charge as the product, so it carries one fee rather than two, and the upsell is one tap against the card the buyer just used. It is a second charge, so our fee applies to it again. The layout came out of funnels that ran for agency clients before Stakk existed.

Want a bump and an upsell without choosing a plan?

Stakk is 10% + $0.50 a sale with card processing included, and no monthly fee. The charge lands in your own Stripe account, the order bump and the post-purchase upsell are there on your first product, and a month with no sales costs you nothing.
