What does Teachable cost?

Nathan Field Nathan Field·Founder, Stakk · 30 October 2026 · 8 min read

Teachable costs $39 a month for Starter, $89 for Builder or $189 for Growth. Paid yearly, that drops to $29, $69 or $139 a month. A fourth plan, Custom, is priced on a call. Starter also takes a 7.5% transaction fee on every sale, while Builder, Growth and Custom take 0% on Teachable Payments. Card processing comes on top on every plan, at 2.9% + 30 cents for a US card. There is no free plan. Checked 26 October 2026.

Every number here comes from Teachable's own pricing page and help articles, read on the day this was written. One part of the page contradicts itself, on the length of the free trial, and that is covered below rather than guessed at.

How much is Teachable a month?

Teachable's cheapest plan is Starter, at $39 a month. Teachable's pricing page lists three plans with a price and a Custom plan you book a call for.

Plan Billed monthly Billed yearly Transaction fee Products Admin users
Starter$39 a month$29 a month (save $120)7.5%51
Builder$89 a month$69 a month (save $240)0%101
Growth$189 a month$139 a month (save $600)0%505
CustomPriced on a callPriced on a call0%Not listedNot listed

The yearly toggle says "22% OFF". By our sums the saving runs from about 22% on Builder to about 26% on Growth. It only saves money if you keep the plan for the full year.

Growth is the plan that lists "Remove Teachable branding". Starter and Builder do not list it. Teachable also lists an optional BackOffice fee of 2 to 2.8%.

What is the 7.5% Teachable Starter fee?

It is Teachable's own cut of each sale on the Starter plan, and card processing is charged on top of it. The pricing FAQ asks "Are there any transaction fees?" and answers: "Only on the Starter plan, which has a 7.5% transaction fee." It goes on: "Builder, Growth, and Custom plans have 0% transaction fees when you use Teachable Payments."

Processing applies on every plan. The FAQ says "Standard payment processing fees may still apply," and the pricing page lists them:

Payment type Processing fee
US credit or debit card2.9% + 30 cents
International credit or debit card3.9% + 30 cents
US PayPal3.49% + 49 cents
International PayPal4.99% + 49 cents
Chargeback$15

Add Starter's 7.5% to the US card rate and a Starter sale costs 10.4% + 30 cents. On a $27 product, that is about $3.11 a sale, plus the $39 a month. On Builder, the same sale costs about $1.08, because the 7.5% is gone. Over enough sales, that gap pays for Builder's extra $50 a month.

The 0% depends on Teachable Payments, which Teachable's upsell article calls "our new payments experience powered by Stripe." Where your money sits between a sale and your bank is its own question, and our breakdown of which platforms hold your money and which pay you directly covers it.

Which Teachable plan has order bumps and upsells?

All three priced plans, as far as Teachable's own pages show. The Starter, Builder and Growth plan cards each list "Upsells & cart recovery", so the $39 plan has them. Teachable's order bump article names no plan requirement at all.

That article says you "can add up to three published order bumps" to the checkout of any course, coaching product, digital download or bundle. The buyer is enrolled in everything they picked and "will only see one charge on their billing statement." Two limits: a free course has no checkout page, so it cannot carry a bump, and a coupon for the main product does not apply to the bump.

Checkout
Watercolor basics course $27
Add the printable practice sheets One-time, added to this order +$9
Total $36
Pay $36

An order bump as Teachable's help article describes it: the add-on sits on the checkout page, the buyer is enrolled in both products, and they see one charge on their statement. The products and prices are our example.

Teachable's upsell article, dated 9 September 2026, describes two more kinds. A checkout upsell sits "On the checkout page, before purchase is complete." The buyer adds it "with a single click," and it is "charged as part of the same transaction", so it works much like a bump. An in-lesson upsell is "Embedded within a course lesson." We could not find a public help page that says how an upsell shown after payment is charged.

For a different course platform's take, Podia lists upsells only on its Shaker and Earthquaker plans. We covered whether Podia has order bumps in its own post.

Is Teachable free?

No. Teachable's FAQ answers "Is there a free plan?" with: "Teachable is a paid service that includes a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee." The plan cards say the same thing: "7-day free trial. 30-day guarantee."

So on the cards and in the FAQ, 7 days is the free trial and 30 days is the money-back guarantee. A pop-up on the same page says something else: "We've extended our free trial from 7 to 30 days." The page contradicts itself, so we can't tell you for sure whether the trial is 7 days or 30. The 30-day money-back guarantee is the part both places agree on. The FAQ says that within your first 30 days you "can also request a refund under our 30-day money-back guarantee."

If you want to sell a course with no monthly fee at all, the Systeme.io free plan includes 1 course, 3 sales funnels and up to 2,000 contacts, with no transaction fees, and it "never expires and does not require a credit card." Our Systeme.io pricing breakdown covers what happens when you grow past those limits.

How many products does each Teachable plan allow?

Starter allows 5 products, Builder 10 and Growth 50. Custom does not list a number. For a seller with a growing catalog, the product limit can push you up a plan before any feature does.

Teachable sells courses, coaching, digital downloads and bundles as products, which is how its order bump article lists them. So a seller with three courses, a coaching offer and a workbook has already used all 5 Starter slots. The pricing page does not say whether a bundle of products you already sell takes up a slot of its own. If you plan to sell bundles, check that during the trial.

Seats move up with the plans too. Starter and Builder have 1 admin user each, and Growth has 5. If someone else helps run your school, Growth is the first plan with room for them.

When is Teachable worth paying for?

When you sell courses, or when you sell enough that a 0% plan beats a per-sale cut. Here are the sums for a US card sale, against Stakk's 10% + $0.50, which includes card processing.

Plan Monthly fee Cost of a $27 sale Cost of a $47 sale Cost of a $97 sale
Stakk$0$3.20$5.20$10.20
Teachable Starter$39$3.11$5.19$10.39
Teachable Builder$89$1.08$1.66$3.11
Teachable Growth$189$1.08$1.66$3.11

Builder is where Teachable gets cheaper than Stakk. On a $27 product, Builder costs less from the 43rd sale in a month. On a $47 product it is from the 26th sale, and on a $97 product from the 13th. On yearly billing, at $69 a month, the $27 line moves to the 33rd sale.

Starter is a different story. Its per-sale cost is close to ours, a few cents less on a $27 product and more on a $97 one, and it adds $39 a month. Starter is for the course tools, not for saving money. If you sell a $27 product 25 or more times a month, Builder costs less than Starter.

If your course is really a paid community, look at Skool's fees too. They work differently from both of these.

When would I send you somewhere else?

When you sell a course. Stakk does not host courses: no lessons, no student logins, no progress tracking, no quizzes, no drip content. It also has no communities, no subscriptions or recurring billing, no email marketing, US dollars only, and no prices above $999. It stores no files either. You paste a link to your product, and Stakk emails it to the buyer after payment. If your product is a course, Teachable or Thinkific, which now starts at $109 a month, is the better home for it, and Stakk is the wrong choice. Our Thinkific vs Teachable comparison weighs the two course platforms. And if cost is the whole decision, the Systeme.io free plan has no transaction fees, and Whop charges 2.7% + $0.30 on a domestic card sale with "no setup fees, no monthly costs." Both take less from a sale than our 10% + $0.50.

What Stakk does is narrower. It puts an order bump and a post-purchase upsell on every account, with no plan to upgrade to. The bump rides the same charge as the product, so it carries one fee rather than two. The upsell is one tap against the card the buyer just used. It is a second charge and carries its own fee. The money lands in your own Stripe account, not a balance we hold. The layout came out of funnels that ran for agency clients before Stakk existed.

Need a checkout, not a course platform?

If you sell templates, guides or presets rather than courses, a Teachable plan charges you every month for course tools and a product limit you may not need. On Stakk there is no monthly fee and no plan to upgrade to. You pay 10% + $0.50 a sale with card processing included, nothing when you do not sell, and the order bump and post-purchase upsell are on from day one. You can have a product live in about ten minutes.
