When is BeatStars the better pick?
Pick BeatStars if any of these is you.
- You need artists to find your beats. BeatStars has a marketplace where artists search for beats. If you have no audience yet, that is worth a lot, and no fee table shows it.
- You sell enough to cover a small plan. BeatStars takes 0% of each sale on every plan. Starter is $4.99 a month, or $19.99 a year. PayPal's fee is on top. Over many sales, a flat plan can work out cheaper than a fee on every sale.
- You want music tools. BeatStars plans include license contracts, stem uploads on Growth, publishing, and a custom domain on Professional. Stakk does not have these.
- You want someone else to handle tax. BeatStars collects sales tax at checkout, and it is the seller of record for VAT on UK and EU sales. On Stakk you are the seller.
- You want memberships. On Professional, buyers can pay a monthly fee for a set number of beat licenses. Stakk has no subscriptions or memberships, no course player, no booking calendar and no file hosting, and every price is one-off, $1 to $999.
- You can't open a Stripe account where you live. BeatStars pays beat sales into PayPal. Stakk pays out through Stripe only.
Who should pick Stakk over BeatStars?
- You don't want a monthly bill. Stakk has no monthly fee and no setup fee. Its fee is from 10% + $0.50 per sale, card processing included, so a month with no sales costs you nothing.
- You want an order bump and an upsell. Stakk has an order bump before paying and a one-click upsell after paying, on every account. We found neither in BeatStars' help center.
- You sell more than beats. Stakk sells any digital product, like sample packs, presets, ebooks and guides, at one link, stakk.store/yourname, built for phones.
- You want buyers to pay by card into your own Stripe. The buyer pays into your own Stripe account. Stakk never holds it, and Stripe pays you on its own schedule.
