Stakk vs Gumroad
What each one charges, where your money goes, and which fits you.
The short answer
Stakk charges from 10% + $0.50 per sale, card processing included. Gumroad charges 10% + $0.50 and adds card processing of 2.9% + $0.30 on top. Neither has a monthly fee.
The bigger difference is the money. On Stakk the buyer pays into your own Stripe account. On Gumroad the sale lands in Gumroad's balance first, and most payouts wait at least 7 days. Gumroad is the better pick if you want it to be the legal seller and handle sales tax, if you sell subscriptions, or if your sales pass $20,000 in a month.

When is Gumroad the better pick?
Pick Gumroad if any of these is you.
- You want someone else to be the seller. Gumroad has been the merchant of record since 1 January 2025. It collects and pays sales tax, VAT and GST on your sales. On Stakk you are the seller.
- You sell a lot each month. Once your sales pass $20,000 in a calendar month, Gumroad charges 5% + $0.50 on new direct sales for the rest of that month.
- You refund often. Gumroad gives its own fee back when you refund a sale. Stakk's fee is not returned.
- You need more than one-off digital products. Gumroad lets you sell subscriptions, memberships and courses. Stakk does none of these. It has no course player, no booking calendar and no file hosting, and every price is one-off, $1 to $999.
- You can't open a Stripe account where you live. Stakk pays out through Stripe only. Where Gumroad can't pay to your bank, it pays through PayPal.
Who should pick Stakk over Gumroad?
- You want the money in your own account. The buyer pays into your own Stripe account. Stakk never holds it, so there is no balance to wait on, no minimum and no 7 day hold. Stripe pays you on its own schedule.
- You want one fee with card processing in it. From 10% + $0.50 per sale, card processing included.
- You want an upsell after the buyer pays. Both have an order bump, a small extra the buyer ticks before paying. Only Stakk has a one-click upsell after paying, and it is on every account.
- You keep your files where they are. Paste a share link from Google Drive, Dropbox or Notion. The moment a buyer pays, Stakk emails them that link with a receipt.
